Language and Literacy in Childhood Education

Catalog Description

This writing intensive capstone course provides a comprehensive overview of the development, learning, and teaching of literacy from grades one through six. Topics include the relationship between written and spoken language, language and literacy development in children from culturally, academically, and linguistically diverse backgrounds, literacy instruction and assessment. Students will develop a teaching ePortfolio and must complete 15 hours of classroom observation in a NYC public school.
