Description

This course covers the historical roots of racism in the United States and sociological, psychological, and philosophical theories of racial oppression. Students will examine whiteness as a social experience and racisms directed towards Asian, Black, Indigenous, and Latinx people in the U.S. This course will explore how religious groups—such as Catholics, Jews and Muslims—are framed as racial groups. In addition, it will cover how sex, sexuality, and class impact racial experiences.
