This course is an introduction to the historical and philosophical foundations on which scientificinquiry rests. Topics to be discussed include how science explains, how scientific theories reflectthe nature of the world, causation and induction, laws of nature, frequency, subjective andBayesian probabilities. Also, the class will discuss the epistemology of how certain historicaldiscoveries caused major scientific shifts.
