This course will examine the political context of crime and punishment in the United States. As such, it will investigate the relationship of crime, punishment, society, and politics. The course will present a systemic and critical analysis of the political economy of law, criminal justice, mass incarceration, militarization of police, the wars on crime, drugs, and terrorism and their impact upon civil liberties and human rights.
