This course explores how gender, sex, and sexuality are politicized (and policed) through social norms, attitudes and beliefs, as well as public and private policies, practices, and social institutions in urban settings. Feminist theory as articulated by liberal feminism, radical feminism, intersectional feminism, queer theory, and critical race theory (including womanism) are examined in their historical developments through social movements and public policy.
