This course examines the historical development, present organization and multiple functions of policing. Readings will examine key areas in policing including: recruitment and training; stress and hazards of policing; police subcultures; methods of policing; the role of discretion; criminal investigation;legal concerns; police accountability; ethics and corruption; community policingand police-minority relations.
