Description

This is an introduction to the history of design as a major independent element of visual arts, and the ways in which intentionally produced objects, environments and experiences both shape and reflect their historical moment. The course will investigate how good design is expressed in architecture, household objects, crafts, tools and transportation. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of social, political and cultural factors and the role they play on how objects and structures are made, and why they look the way they do.
